Good dog owners know that a good dog is one that is trained. Whether it’s basic obedience or advanced training, dogs must be socialized and taught how to be good canine citizens. Training is also necessary to keeping your dog happy and safe. Check out these great canine training tips.
Make sure that you set a calm tone whenever you set foot in a room where your dog is. Play time is great, but your dog needs to learn to stay calm as his master enters the room. Do not acknowledge the animal when you enter and by doing so, you create a controlled atmosphere in which you decide how and when play time begins.
Make sure you remain controlled when rewarding your dog. When your dog responds to a command in the right way, you should reward this behavior when he is calm. If you get excited, the dog will become excited and everything will be out of control. You should stay calm and then give the reward.
Encourage your dog to be as active as possible. Dogs get bored just as easily as children. When dogs are bored they are difficult to train. If you have a happy, exercised dog, they will listen better. A long walk or a brisk run are great ways to get rid of some of your dog’s excess energy.
Give your puppy some toys to chew on so they do not hurt while teething, keep other things they might want to chew on out of their reach! Then, give it something that it is allowed to chew on if it likes. Teething pain can be soothed by a washcloth that has been soaked in water and frozen.
As you train your dog to use the bathroom, keep in mind what whatever they eat will also come out. To ensure that your dog’s bowel movements remain regular, feed him or her some high-quality food a minimum of twice per day during the same times daily. This will help you figure out when the best time is to take your dog out and avoid accidents.
Think of a word you can use as a command during training. “Yes” is the perfect word to show dogs approval before giving a treat.
Punishing Tone
Every command should be giving with the same tone and volume. This lets them know you’re serious and that they must obey. It also helps them understand the differences between a sharp punishing tone and a sharp non-punishing tone.
In order to prevent your dog from jumping on you, grab its paws anytime he jumps on you and gently squeeze them to inform them that this isn’t acceptable behavior. This will not harm your dog if done gently, but it will be uncomfortable. After some time, they won’t jump on anyone because they’ll associate it with being made to feel uncomfortable.
Hopefully these tips have given you some ways to make your dog a friendly pet you’ll be happy to show off. A well-trained dog is a happy member of a happy family. You can train your dog yourself or find someone else to do it. The training your dog learns will give him and your family many happy years.
